2012 Summer Camp

Camp Taiwan’s Summer Camp 2012 is sure to be our best yet! Come experience what increasing numbers of campers have over the past eight years. Summer campers enjoy six days and five nights of adventure at our 90-acre campsite in Wanli on the North Coast of Taiwan. We are the only authentic North American-style residential camp in Asia. Our summer camps are conducted in English and offer a true language immersion experience. Our themes this year are the London Olympics and Superheroes! Each theme will last one week and alternate throughout the summer. We are also very excited about our new Camp Streams™ this summer. Read on to find out more about the changes for 2012.

Themes

Camp Taiwan will alternate between two themes during the 2012 Summer Camp – Super Heroes and London Olympics. The themes are a great way to acclimate kids to camp and serve as the backdrop for tent groups and our camp wide games and nightly activities. This season, we’ve chosen topical themes. Several blockbuster super hero movies are due to be released, and, of course, London hosts the 2012 Olympic Games.

London Olympics

What better host for the Olympic Games for an English-speaking camp than London England. Campers will get the chance to learn more about London and other cities around the world, while participating in Olympic-themed activities. The pageantry and culture of the Olympics will be recreated at Camp Taiwan. Camp Taiwan adventure activities will get a little London flair!

Superheroes

Tent groups will participate in activities and projects centered on different superheroes. Comic-style super hero journals, all new wide games and a special “Hero Night” party will add to the immersion of the week. And, of course, there are the Camp Taiwan adventure activities, too!

Can’t decide? Book two consecutive camps back-to-back so your child can experience both themes. Campers who stay two weeks really get to experience all camp has to offer. When booked together, receive a discount of $1600NT. (3000NT extra charge applies to the mid-camp excursion.)

New in 2012 – Streams™

Every camper can choose one of seven streams when they register for camp. In addition to all the fun activities at camp, Campers will have one activity session per day in their chosen stream. This means all the other traditional camp activities will be ‘free-choice.’ Returning campers will no longer need to go to every camp activity the first time around. If they want to choose ‘Level 2 Archery’ or ‘Level 3 Climbing,’ they can do so from the beginning. New campers can choose the introductory courses during free choice time, or choose Camp 101 Stream to really advance through the levels. This new system is good for new campers and returning campers alike and allows us to offer more programming than ever before — leading to new experiences every time a camper comes back.

Streams™

Lego® Mindstorms®

Campers will work on several projects over the course of the week, making use of Camp Taiwan’s unique location. Kids will be challenged mentally at camp as well as physically.

Ecology Science

Camp Taiwan is located in pristine wilderness and this season we will make the most of it with all new science-based ecology programming. Campers will learn about local flora and fauna and how it is studied.

Advanced Crafts

Campers who enroll in the Arts and Crafts stream get to complete hands-on projects that they can take home at the end of the week. Campers will work in several mediums and in different styles. (+200NT)

High Ropes

Thrill seekers will be able to partake in activities seldom offered previously in our summer camps. This stream allows us to offer the two-line bridge, catwalk and more.

Team Sports

Soccer is always a popular free choice activity at camp, and this season we will offer that and more in our sports stream. Campers will learn the basic skills for each sport and compete in organized tournaments during the week.

Dance/Drama

Campers get the chance to explore their creative side in this Arts theme. Participants will get to learn a whole routine and put on a show. In fact, they’ll be the featured group at our Party Night late in the week.

Camp 101

Great for first time campers and returning campers who want to try it all again. All the camp favorites, river tracing, archery, rock climbing, and more are included.

Camps

Mini Camp (Ages 5-7)

Children 5-7 are eligible for our minicamps during Sessions 5 and 6. These camps are 3D/2N and are the perfect introduction to North American style camps geared toward younger kids who may not be ready for the extended version.
Minicampers partake in all the fun of camp and enjoy a higher ratio of counselors to children. Instead of our Camp Taiwan safari tents, minicampers all stay under one roof in our two-story Eco Lodge.

Youth Camp (Ages 7-12)

The bulk of Camp Taiwan campers fall in this category. Campers aged 7-12 are eligible to join and will enjoy all Camp Taiwan has to offer. Campers are grouped with children of similar age and activities are geared to their level of ability.

This summer we will also offer an optional Half-day Ocean Kayaking Tours for campers who choose to participate. This program includes basic kayak skills and a guided trip with our experienced kayak professionals. There is an added charge of 900NT for this additional programming.

Teen Camp (Ages 12-15)

Teens aged 12-15 can sign up for this camp. The camp runs simultaneously with our youth camps, but teens are grouped together and enjoy camp activities taught at a pace more appropriate to their maturity.
Teen campers have the option of staying up a bit later and joining in additional camp activities not available to younger activities. These include; high ropes (like cat walk and giant ladder) and big river tracing.

Additionally, teen campers are given the opportunity to mentor youth campers during selected activities. Note: Campers choose ‘Teen Camp’ instead of one of the seven camp streams.
