Winter 2012: Exploring Language

This winter send your child to Camp Taiwan to experience two great themes which highlight language and critical thinking. The two themes, Tintin and Sherlock Holmes, will rotate throughout the five sessions of Winter Camp this year. Both themes have a strong language component and also lend themselves to problem solving and critical thinking — hallmarks of the Camp Taiwan winter program. In winter, campers stay in our cozy Eco-Lodge in upper camp, but still get the chance to experience much of what camp has to offer. Outdoor adventure activities are spaced out and balanced with inside instruction and activities to ensure campers are comfortable for their 3D/2N stay at camp.

Adventures of Tintin

The new Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson movie “The Adventures of Tintin” is released in November and is sure to be a big hit amongst kids in Taiwan. It is the tale of an intrepid young reporter traveling the world having adventures and is the perfect backdrop for campers to learn about reading, writing, reporting and, of course, adventure. Students of all ages will benefit from the theme and the activities designed surrounding it. All campers will learn about comic book making and older campers will have the chance to write news stories which will be posted to our blog. Giant Swing, Zip line, archery and all the other favorites are part of the Tintin camp with activities designed specifically for the theme. (3D/2N Price: NT$8500) SCHEDULE

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is a timeless tale of a great detective who is introduced to the world through a series of books written by his assistant Doctor Watson. This literary-based character is a good way to introduce mysteries and problem solving to campers. We will use detective stories for all ages as the basis for our lesson plans, including “The Great Mouse Detective,” “Nate the Great” and “Encyclopedia Brown.” Adventure activities are designed specifically to fit this theme to make it easier for campers to sign up for two consecutive camps. Campers will learn about detecting and solve fun puzzles during this three day adventure. (3D/2N Price: NT$8500) SCHEDULE
