2011 Summer Camp

Give your kids an experience they will never forget this summer at Camp Taiwan – the island’s only North American-style English language summer camp. This year’s two engaging themes (Warriors Cats and World Treasure Hunter) offer variety and great material for exciting weeks at camp. Our activity instructors are highly trained and able to facilitate learning for children of all skill levels while ensuring they have a good time. Afternoon and evening theme-based games, special events and campfires tie the weeks together and bring closure to what will surely be the most memorable days of your child’s vacation.

Three Main Goals of Camp

  1. Increased connection to the outdoors and knowledge of Northern Taiwan’s Eco–System
  2. Increased confidence in themselves to live both independently and inter-dependently within a group of peers
  3. Learn skills that contribute to a lifelong enjoyment of camping and the outdoors

New Addition

Last summer every themed summer camp week was near capacity. This year Camp Taiwan officially opens the Eco Lodge to summer campers. This means more campers will be able to attend each session, but if last year was any indication, parents don’t want to wait to register their children. Well over 100 campers attended our 2010 Winter Camp!

Camp Taiwan is conducted in English and provides a great opportunity for kids to live and learn in English 24 hours a day. Some campers, though, struggle with an immersion English environment and need a boost to get into the swing of camp and make the most of the English-speaking opportunity. This year, Camp Taiwan offers an Adventure English add-on to those campers who need some extra help. Campers enrolled in this program receive five 90-minute sessions of instruction geared toward maximizing their Camp Taiwan English experience. Classes introduce important vocabulary, review camp experiences, and provide important milestones for campers to reach throughout the week. Enrollment in Adventure English is limited to 24 students per week. Adventure English is for lower level English speakers, but is not mandatory. Campers must still meet minimum Camp Taiwan language requirements.

Themes

Themes for 2011 Summer Camp are Warriors and World Treasure Hunter. These two themes balance literature and knowledge of the world and offer campers the chance to enjoy two dynamic weeks of camp.

Warriors

This theme is based on a series of children’s novels about four clans of cats that live in the forest: ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan and ShadowClan. Each clan boasts its own set of special skills that allow them to thrive in their environment. In addition to the normal rotation of camp activities, campers who join the Warriors’ sessions will learn more about this in depth literary world and participate in wide games and other experience-based programs which build on their acquired knowledge of the material. Many campers will surely be familiar with the source material as these books are consistently on the best seller lists. For those who are not familiar with the material, this camp will be an exciting opportunity to explore a new world.

World Treasure Hunter

These sessions are based on the 尋寶記 series where children get to explore all the wonders of foreign countries in a unique immersion environment. Every day of camp will be a stop in a new country. Campers will stamp their Camp Taiwan passports as they participate in wide games and other experience-based programs based on the day’s country. And, just like in treasure hunting movies, there will be plenty of action — Camp Taiwan style. Archery, rock climbing, zip line, and giant swing just to name a few. There is never a dull moment and children are sure to come back home with tales of the hidden treasures they’ve found.

Register your child for the theme that most appeals to him. Both themes are appropriate for all camp-aged children. Book both themes so your son or daughter does not miss any of the action this summer and receive a discounted price.

Camps

Mini Camp (Ages 5-7)

Children 5-7 are eligible for our minicamps during Sessions 5 and 6. These camps are 3D/2N and are the perfect introduction to North American style camps geared toward younger kids who may not be ready for the extended version. Minicampers partake in all the fun of camp and enjoy a higher ratio of counselors to children. Instead of our Camp Taiwan safari tents, minicampers all stay under one roof in our two-story Eco Lodge.
3D/2N Price: NT$8500

Youth Camp (Ages 7-12)

The bulk of Camp Taiwan campers fall in this category. Campers aged 7-12 are eligible to join and will enjoy all Camp Taiwan has to offer. Campers are grouped with children of similar age and activities are geared to their level of ability.
6D/5N Price: NT$17000

Teen Camp (Ages 12-14)

Teens aged 12-14 can sign up for this camp. The camp runs simultaneously with our youth camps, but teens are grouped together and enjoy camp activities taught at a pace more appropriate to their maturity. Teen campers have the option of staying up a bit later and joining in additional camp activities not available to younger activities. These include; high ropes (like cat walk and giant ladder) and big river tracing. Additionally, teen campers are given the opportunity to mentor youth campers during selected activities.

Our Mission: to help build stronger communities.*

Camp Taiwan TeamOur Mission is to help build stronger communities. Strength is achieved through respecting and embracing diversity. Adults and children with diverse skill sets (no one is good at everything) have a chance to challenge themselves in a nature-retreat setting.

We seek to build strong leadership and team skills, foster respect for individual strengths and weaknesses and for the environment. We do this by creating playful and dynamic adventure, art and agricultural programs that help groups to get connected to each other and to nature.
