Mini-Camp

This three-day, two-night camp is specially designed for younger campers. Mini-Camp has an enriched ratio of one counselor for every four campers as well as 24 hour supervision with the counselors sleeping in the tents with campers. This individual attention will help put these young campers at ease and make them feel more confident about being away from home.

The minicamp program is specially tailored to the skills and maturity of younger campers. The high staff/camper ratio means mini-campers receive more attention and individualized instruction thereby providing a solid foundation in each of our core adventure activities.

We want our newest campers to have fun, make new friends, gain confidence and foster a love of the great outdoors!

  • Camp Taiwan’s six core instructional activities for Mini-Camp are: Introduction to rock climbing, Arts & Crafts (tie-dye), Ecology, Giant Swing, River Tracing, Archery.
  • Free Choice activities include: Cooperative games, Zip-Line, Archery, Climbing, Arts & Crafts, Ecology.

NOTE: All climbing and ropes equipment are designed, built and maintained by project adventure USA.

Climbing Wall:

“The Sky’s the Limit!”

At the heart of Camp Taiwan is our five-sided climbing tower with beginner routes designed especially for young learners. Our professional climbing instructors offer Mini Campers step-by-step instruction in safety, balance, strength and climbing skills.

Arts and Crafts – Tie Dye

“Kids Love Tie Dye!”

Kids get to turn an old piece of clothing into a special camp keepsake. This craft is a tradition of North American camps. Parents will be amazed at the colorful creations campers bring home.

Ecology

“Bugs, Shrubs and the Great Outdoors!”

If campers don’t love bugs when they come to camp, they do by the time they leave. Our carefully-developed ecology curriculum opens the doors to all the great flora and fauna of Taiwan with hands-on looks at native plants and trees and a wide variety of animals — from caterpillars and cicadas to fish and frogs. Your camper will return home ready to be your guide to the natural world on the next family hike.

Giant Swing:

“It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane!”

No, it’s your camper. The giant swing is one of the most talked about activities of camp. Campers get to soar like a bird in the safety of their own harness. They choose how high they go and when to pull the release cord, then gravity takes over and takes them on an unforgettable ride. After the giant swing your camper will be full of confidence.

River Tracing

“Real Adventurers!”

The best way to learn about a river is to get into one! Luckily, Camp Taiwan has two small rivers running through it that offer a safe river adventure. Kids get to scramble over rocks and wade upstream through vibrant ecosystems, learning as the go. Campers exit the river wet and happy.

Archery

“Little Robin Hoods!”

Camp Taiwan gives kids the freedom to do what they love to do in a safe, supervised environment. Nowhere is this more evident than when kids participate on our archery course. Our program uses international standards and professional age-appropriate equipment to introduce campers to one of the “six arts.”

Free Choice Activities

During the free choice activities campers choose three activities that they would like to visit. Two of these activities, Climbing and Archery, are not repeats of the basic skills – rather they give campers who have tried and enjoyed them a chance to hone their skills. These activities have three skill-level patches toward which campers can work. Other free choice activities are:

Zip Line

“Zip, Zing, Zoom!”

Zip is the perfect word to describe this safe, confidence-building activity. Kids get roped in and climb to the elevated platform where a waiting instructor clips them on to the line. Campers of all ages love the exhilaration as they step off the platform and zip above camp safely attached to the line.

Ceramics

“Little Michelangelos!”

Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium that kids love. Its three-dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms. Our new ceramics studio and clay program highlights the relationship between clay and nature.

Cooperative Games

“No ‘I’ in T-E-A-M!”

Cooperative games focus on process versus outcome and strive for a common interest among the participants. Research on the use of cooperative games has shown increased personal self-esteem, decreased aggressive behaviors, increased cooperation, and enhanced positive socialization.

Ecology

“Plants Don’t Bite!”

Taiwan has an amazingly diverse plant population and is a world-class ecological site. Our flora study introduces campers to the most common plant life found in Northern Taiwan, introduces the basics of plant classification and teaches the importance of plant life in the larger ecosystem

Other Activities

Wide Games

“The Game’s Afoot!”

“Camp Wide” games are the ones that are closely linked to our summer camp theme. These games involve all the campers and take place most afternoons or early evenings. Traditional popular camp-wide games include Capture the Flag, Bandits and Settlers, and Stratego.

Evening program

When the sun goes down the fun continues with our evening programs. The first and last night of camp we have campfires. Our first campfire is a welcome campfire featuring traditional camp songs and games – and of course a chance to roast marshmallows and make S’Mores. The second evening we play a night time game and the closing campfire finishes our last night at camp. This is an especially moving program where campers share their highlight of their stay during a candle-light ceremony.
