Teen Leadership Camp

The BEST gift you can give your teenager is SELF-CONFIDENCE!

You can’t be there all the time. Give your teen the skills to be a LEADER!

Camp Taiwan’s two-week teen leadership camp is designed using traditional, proven methods to develop teens into responsible young adults. Character development is highlighted in the program because of the interrelatedness of the ecosystem and human character qualities in outdoor recreational activities. Using Camp’s unique setting and facilities, the leadership training culminates in the popular three-day camping expedition. The young leaders plan and lead the expedition with guidance from Camp Taiwan Staff.

This special camp combines Camp Taiwan’s core activities – ideally suited to teamwork — with daily leadership workshops. During camp, young leaders are instructed in how to give and receive feedback and encouraged to share personal reflections. Best of all, though … the camp is FUN!

Camp Taiwan Core Skill Activities

Our two-week program includes skills training in the following adventure/sport activities:

  • Rock climbing and belaying
  • High ropes course training
  • River tracing
  • Archery
  • Kayaking
  • Orienteering
  • Expedition planning/cooking/packing
  • Hiking
  • Camping

We call these our “core activities” because they are the heart and soul of Camp Taiwan. Each activity is taught to international standards and entirely in English. They are dependent on teamwork, critical thinking and clear purpose, and therefore are the perfect complement to our Teen Leadership Camp.

Leadership Workshops

Each day of camp features a leadership workshop. The workshops cover:

  • Communication
  • Problem Solving
  • Peer Pressure
  • Risk Taking
  • Citizenship
  • Trust

Our counselors lead the campers through a series of hands-on activities and initiatives –each presenting a problem that campers must solve. Groups need to think and act critically using a variety of leadership skills they have learned throughout camp. The activities pose real challenges and do not always offer a clear solution. Counselors guide the group and debrief the teams at the end of each workshop. This is the point where the real learning takes place as campers evaluate how they performed and how the leadership skills they are learning are applied in daily life.
