Summer 2017 Session 7, Day 3

Dear Parents,

Campers were a little quieter this morning as the morning bell chimed at seven. The activities of the last couple of days have started to make the campers grateful for they beds at night. They are quieting down quickly after getting to bed and resting well until the following morning which is just what we like. That means they are rested and ready for all the challenges and good times we have prepared for them each day. After the morning bell, campers tidied their living areas and got ready for the day. We were soon all gathered in the dining room for a big breakfast. This morning we were treated to an impromptu dance part as well as counselors started the music after breakfast and campers and counselors danced around the dining hall. It was a great way to start another active day at camp in high spirits. (Even some of the teens joined in the dancing!) There were two activity periods before lunch and two more after. It was a bittersweet day as we said goodbye to our 7a mini campers. They were very cute and it won’t be the same without them tonight. Tomorrow, though, we welcome our 7b mini campers.

Today the teams followed this schedule.

Red Team: Cooperative games, crafts, sports, wide game
Orange Team: River tracing, cooperative games, crafts, wide game
Yellow Team: Ecology, river tracing, cooperative games, wide game
Pink Team: Rock climbing, ecology, river tracing, wide game
Brown Team: Archery, rock climbing, ecology, wide game
Light Blue Team: Giant swing, archery, rock climbing, wide game

Purple Team (mini campers): Parachute games, archery, closing

Right now campers are getting cleaned up after a hot day. Tonight’s evening program for the youth campers is very relaxed. Tonight is movie night and it is a good opportunity for them to catch up on some rest after a busy three days. They get the chance to recharge their batteries and by tomorrow will be full of energy once again!

Good night from Camp Taiwan.

Best Regards,
Mike

Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Our counselors work very hard to make sure campers are safe and having fun. They take lots of photos as well, but that is not their primary responsibility, of course. Additional pictures will be provided via Dropbox after camp for parents to download at their leisure.

MORE PICTURES WILL BE UPLOADED BY 8 P.M.

Summer 2017 Session 7, Day 2

Dear Parents,

We had a great second day of camp on Tuesday as the dry weather continued for us. Campers were up a little early today eager to get started on the fun. By later in the week this will change as they start to get a bit tired toward the middle of the week. Not today though as I could here giggling and excited chatter as I headed into lower camp for the morning counselor meeting. Once the meeting was over, counselors checked on the kids and their preparation for the day’s activities. Water bottles were filled, teeth brushed, sunscreen applied, etc. Soon we were all heading to the dining room for a big breakfast to get us through one of the busiest days of camp. Campers had two activity rotations before lunch and one more after. For youth campers, the final activity before shower time was tent time. During tent time, counselors and just the kids in their tent meet for a special activity that they choose together. It’s a great chance to have fun and get to know your tentmates even better. The teens spent the afternoon in the upper forest learning some basic survival skills. Minis continued on their activity rotation in the afternoon.

Today the teams followed this schedule.

Red Team: Rock climbing, ecology, river tracing, tent time
Orange Team: Archery, rock climbing, ecology, tent time
Yellow Team: Giant swing, archery, rock climbing, tent time
Pink Team: Sports, giant swing, archery, tent time
Brown Team: Crafts, sports, giant swing, tent time
Light Blue Team: Cooperative games, crafts, sports, tent time
Blue Team: River tracing, cooperative games, crafts, tent time

Green Team (mini campers): Bouldering, bug art, shrimping, pond play
Purple Team (mini campers): Bug art, bouldering, pond play, shrimping

Teens 1: Crafts, zip line, survival in the upper forest
Teens 2: Zip line, crafts, survival in the upper forest

Right now campers are getting ready to shower and have a quick rest before dinner time. Teens tonight will watch a movie after journal time. Mini campers will play games in the lodge and youth campers will join in a Greek legend-themed night wide game. It will be an exciting end to a busy day.

Good night from Camp Taiwan.

Best Regards,
Mike

Summer 2017 Session 7, Day 1

Dear Parents,

We had an awesome start to our penultimate week of camp today as the session 7 campers showed up bright and early at the Taipei pick up locations to board the buses. Counselors accompanied them on the buses to camp and once they arrived there were more smiling counselors waiting to greet them. First item on the agenda was to check into their living areas. Campers unpacked, checked in with the nurse and learned the rules of camp. Each team took a tour of their areas and then the color teams played some name games and ice breakers to get to know their new friends. Soon, everyone was on their way up to the dining hall for lunch. We had a big lunch to prepare them for the afternoon of activities. Color teams started their core activity rotation with two activities in the afternoon after rest time.

Teams followed this activity schedule in the afternoon.

Red Team: Giant swing, archery
Orange Team: Sports, giant swing
Yellow Team: Crafts, sports
Pink Team: Cooperative games, crafts
Brown Team: River tracing, cooperative games
Light Blue Team: Ecology, river tracing
Blue Team: Rock climbing, ecology

Green Team (mini campers): Cooperative games, slackline
Purple Team (mini campers): Slackline, cooperative games

Teens 1: Rock climbing, archery
Teens 2: Archery, rock climbing

Campers are about to complete their final activity of the day. They will head to showers after and get themselves cleaned up after a long, sweaty day of camp. After showers and a quick rest, all will make their way back to the dining room for dinner and journal writing. After journals we will all head to our campfires. Mini campers will have their own campfire at the lodge while teens and youth campers will have two other campfires as well. There will be lots of singing and fun at all the campfires and, of course, we’ll roast marshmallows for S’mores. It will be a fitting end to a great first day of camp.

Good night from Camp Taiwan.

Best Regards,
Mike

Summer 2017 Session 6, Day 5

Dear Parents,

We had another great day of session six as the wind dissipated a bit and the dry weather continued until a very brief shower in late afternoon. We started off with a big breakfast this morning. Youth campers were definitely feeling more energetic after their low-key movie night on Wednesday. Mini campers were also super excited as they giggled their way down to the dining hall for this morning. Today was the last full day of session six and we made sure we had a full slate of fun on the schedule. Our mini campers and teen campers stayed together and our youth campers continued their sign up free choice activities from yesterday. Those sign up free choice activities are: Archery, rock climbing, zip line, shrimping, basketball and table top games. In addition to these, our first activity period in the afternoon for youth camp was a “name tag” free choice. Campers chose the counselor or activity they wanted to join after lunch and gave them their name tag to enroll in the activity. Name tag activities included crafts, pond play, floor hockey, kickball, ukelele, and slackline. The final activity for teens and youth campers was tent time. Today’s tent time was spent mainly on preparing for tonight’s closing campfire. I can’t wait to see their performances.

Mini campers and teens followed this schedule.

Green Team (mini campers): Bouldering, bug art, pond play, shrimping
Purple Team (mini campers): Bug art, bouldering, shrimping, pond play

Teens: Half day big river tracing, tent time

Right now campers are enjoying dinner. We’ll then write our highlights from the week and our wishes for next week’s campers before heading up to our closing campfire. Session six has passed so quickly!

Good night from Camp Taiwan.

Best Regards,
Mike
