TAS Grade 4 Group 3 Day 1

It was a wonderful start to camp despite a bit of cloud cover filling the skies. The buses arrived full of eager campers ready for adventure. After checking into their tents and going over a few quick camp guidelines, we jumped right into the day’s activities.

For those new to Camp Taiwan, here’s how things work: Campers are grouped into color teams of about 12 to 15, and each team rotates through different activities in 90-minute blocks. These groups stick together throughout their stay, taking on new challenges and experiences as a team. So, for example, while the blue team might be at archery, the gray team could be trying the giant swing.

Here’s a look at what each group got up to today:

  • Blue Team spent their morning aiming for bullseyes at the archery range, and soared through the sky on the giant swing in the afternoon.

  • Gray Team kicked off their day on the giant swing and got creative with tie dye later on—every camper gets to bring home their own custom shirt!

  • Brown Team began their day working together in cooperative games, then set off for an afternoon of river tracing, a nice refreshing way to spend a hot afternoon.

After these rotations, we ended the afternoon with a camp-wide favorite: Rainbow Tag. Each camper wore a colored bandana tucked into their pocket and had to chase down the next color in the rainbow. As they captured bandanas, they earned colored stripes, with the goal of collecting all the colors in the correct order. The game gets trickier as it goes, since you can’t always tell who’s chasing you—or who you should be chasing!

Afterwards, the kids had some downtime to shower and relax before dinner. They’re now winding down by writing in their journals, getting ready for our first campfire of the session. Tonight will be full of laughter, games, songs, and of course, marshmallows toasted for s’mores.

We’ve uploaded today’s photos to Dropbox. You’ll find folders for each team and one for the all-camp activity. The link is open, and there’s no need to request access. Just a reminder: the password to this blog will change when the next group arrives, so be sure to download any photos you want to save.

Want More Camp Taiwan?

If your child enjoyed their stay at Camp Taiwan and you want a bit more, there are a couple of options.

Summer Camp

We have weekly sessions of our regular English summer camp in July and August and our Mandarin program from June 7th to 11th. Summer camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop confidence and independence by trying new things in a supportive atmosphere.

Family Camp

Family Camps are a way for the whole family to share in the fun and adventure of Camp Taiwan. Groups of 10 to 15 families ( Minimum 40 people) book the whole site and come share in the activities that your children have been telling you about. It is a great way to get to know the families of your child's classmates or your coworkers.
