TES Year 3

Dave

We had a great day today. It was most campers' first visit to Camp Taiwan and you could sense the excitement from the moment they got off the buses. We got them up to the dining hall for a quick snack and went over a few Camp rules, and then we sent them right out to their activities.

The children divided into teams designated by a color. If you child still had their name tag when they got home, you can tell what team they were on, by looking at the lanyard on the name tag. That will be handy when you try to find photos of your child.

The children rotated through the following activities.

Bouldering: This is climbing on our climbing wall, but they campers never get more than a few feet off the ground, so they don't need to be tied in. They are spotted by a counselor and a teammate. It is a good introduction to climbing and gives children a chance to practice without the pressure of climbing up high.

Cooperative games: Cooperative games are games that focus on strategy, communication skills, and of course cooperation. At this age, we focus mainly on having fun and listening to instructions. They played several games, but I think the most popular one was a game called Star Wars. It is like a mix of dodgeball, freeze tag, and Star Wars. Ask you child to explain it to you. You will see it in the pictures.

Ecology: Campers get a brief introduction to all the animals (mostly insects and aquatic creatures) that they might find around Camp. Then they get to wander around in groups to see what they can catch. They spent half the time trying to catch things on dry land and half the time trying to catch things in the water. They did quite well. Kids caught a lizard, a frog, some crayfish and fresh water shrimp and a few grasshoppers among other things.

All in all, it was a great day. We were fortunate with the weather. It was a bit cool, but there was no rain.

I want to say thank you to all the parents who entrusted us with their children for the day, and also to the teachers, staff, and parents who came out to Camp Taiwan to help. We couldn't do it without you.

Below, you will see a Dropbox link to photos of the day. Please note that the password to the blog will change when the next group comes to camp. However, the link itself will remain active. Please copy and save the link or download any photos you wish to save.

Want More Camp Taiwan?

If your child enjoyed their stay at Camp Taiwan and you want a bit more, there are a couple of options.

Summer Camp

We have weekly sessions of our regular English summer camp in July and August and our Mandarin program from June 7th to 11th. Summer camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop confidence and independence by trying new things in a supportive atmosphere.

Family Camp

Family Camps are a way for the whole family to share in the fun and adventure of Camp Taiwan. Groups of 10 to 15 families ( Minimum 40 people) book the whole site and come share in the activities that your children have been telling you about. It is a great way to get to know the families of your child's classmates or your coworkers.
